Getting Dressed with the Help of Amazon
Marie Donlon | January 03, 2018Source: AmazonCan’t decide what an outfit you spotted online will look like on your frame until it gets delivered to your house? Amazon may be able to solve that problem with a blended-reality mirror it has recently patented.
According to the patent, the mirror is designed to let consumers virtually try on outfits against a virtual backdrop.
The blended image — which is partially reflective and partially transmissive — is achieved using a combination of cameras, displays and projectors. The mirror first scans the environment to produce a virtual model and identifies the user’s face and eyes to establish which items will be seen as a reflection.
Once complete, the clothing and scenery are transmitted via the mirror to generate the blended image.
This won’t be Amazon’s first foray into fashion. Last year it purchased Body Labs, an artificial intelligence software and computer vision company capable of creating 3D models of human bodies that can move and that can be dressed in virtual outfits. Additionally, Amazon also offers Amazon Echo Look, a hands-free video camera that takes floor-length images of the user in an effort to offer fashion recommendations and style advice.
