KSB Group, a manufacturer of pumps, industrial valves and related service systems, has introduced a new carbon-based high-performance coating developed to improve the durability, efficiency and sustainability of pumps and valves used in demanding applications.

According to its developers, NoriResist is a diamond-like carbon coating designed for wastewater and process engineering applications and it can be applied to a wide range of hydraulic components such as impellers, wear plates, discharge covers, casing wear rings and impeller wear rings, as well as to the casings of close-coupled pumps.

Appropriate for grey cast iron, nodular cast iron and steel materials, NoriResist can also be used on certain plastic components. Further, NoriResist has a hardness of 4,000 HV to 8,000 HV, offering high resistance to abrasive wear, particularly in fluids containing sand.

The company noted that NoriResist is applied in ultra-thin layers, thus preserving component weight, accuracy and performance while also eliminating rebalancing and preventing heat-induced distortion.

During field trials in heavily contaminated wastewater applications, the coating reportedly maintained surface quality and hydraulic efficiency following thousands of operating hours, outperforming conventional coatings that demonstrated noticeable wear and declining efficiency over the same period.

KSB explained that NoriResist promises to extend component life by up to threefold, improving efficiency and reliability, resisting harsh chemicals and high temperatures, and reducing maintenance, resource use and life cycle costs.
