Itron Buys Comverge to Expand Its Utility Services
David Wagman | May 08, 2017Itron will buy Comverge in a cash deal valued at approximately $100 million. A statement says the transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2017, subject to customary closing conditions.
Comverge provides integrated cloud-based demand response, energy efficiency, and customer engagement products and services that enable electric utilities to ensure grid reliability, lower energy costs, meet regulatory demands, and enhance the customer experience.
Through software, hardware, and services, Comverge helps utilities optimize their demand management programs. Comverge has enrolled and deployed nearly 3 million energy management devices into mass-market demand management programs. In 2016, the company generated $60 million in revenue.
Itron provide solutions that measure, manage, and analyze energy and water. Its product portfolio includes electricity, gas, water, and thermal energy measurement devices and control technology; communications systems; software; as well as managed and consulting services.
In April, Comverge announced a contract with Entergy Arkansas to deploy a bring your own device (BYOD) demand-response pilot program. As part of the pilot, Comverge will aggregate consumer-purchased Wi-Fi-enabled smart thermostats to evaluate a potential new demand response resource for Entergy Arkansas.
