Solar PV Project Slated for Mississippi
David Wagman | November 08, 2018Entergy Mississippi plans to use a business unit of Canadian Solar to build a 100 MW solar energy farm on 1,000 acres in the western part of the state.
The business unit, Recurrent Energy, would build the facility for Entergy Mississippi, which would own the facility. If approved by state utility regulators, the project could come online in 2022.
A project agreement worth $138.4 million includes a single-axis tracking photovoltaic (PV) power generator with around 350,000 PV modules.
Entergy Mississippi began studying solar as a renewable energy source in 2016 when the company built three solar pilot project sites in Brookhaven, Hinds and DeSoto counties. The three sites are capable of producing 1,500 kW of electricity (500 kW each).
In August 2018, Entergy Mississippi announced plans to pay $314 million for the 810 MW Choctaw Energy Facility, a combined-cycle natural gas turbine unit owned by a unit of GenOn Energy.
Entergy Mississippi Inc. provides electricity to approximately 449,000 customers in 45 counties. Its parent delivers electricity to 2.9 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
