Extended bonnets from MPI go deep
S. Himmelstein | April 28, 2026McWane Plant & Industrial (MPI) has unveiled a new line of extended bonnets designed in accordance with AWWA M49 requirements. These bonnets are compatible with the full range of MPI valve and water control gate products and are deployed when a valve or gate must be operated from a distance above, due to structural, buried or submerged conditions.
An extended bonnet consists of an outer flanged pipe which connects the valve body to the valve operator
Source: MPI housing, and an inner stem extension that connects the valve stem and operator drive.
Composed of flanged, SCH 40 or SCH 80 carbon steel pipe, the mounting extension protects the stem from external contaminants and obstruction and elevates the actuator to desired position. The shaft extension transmits torque from the actuator to the valve. Thrust bearing is provided when stem weight exceeds the limit for proper operation. A closed position stop is provided when shaft deflection exceeds AWWA limits.
Available in carbon steel or stainless steel, the bonnet extensions have a temperature rating of 0° F to 250° F.
