Video: NACE tool provides cost-effective corrosion management
Engineering360 News Desk | July 30, 2020Research conducted by the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) International has determined that the global cost of corrosion is equivalent to $2.5 trillion. This highlights the need for sound corrosion management practices to contain these costs and led to the development of IMPACT PLUS, a platform to benchmark practices and improve corrosion management across all industry sectors, from pipelines and bridges to maritime and defense systems.
The program balances technical and business solutions by utilizing process classification frameworks, maturity

Developed by the NACE International Institute in concert with the American Productivity and Quality Center, IMPACT PLUS offers benefits that include a customized corrosion management framework, processes for identifying corrosion management gaps, a common language and structure for effective communication at all levels and a process for identifying corrosion management gaps, among other benefits.
Recommendations for organizational improvement are generated based on the Corrosion Management Maturity Model (CMMM) that helps users develop a roadmap of activities, investments, and best practices that lead to higher performance and reduced risk of unexpected failure as well as asset longevity.
Organizations have the option to manage the system themselves with internal resources or engage a trained navigator with corrosion management and consulting expertise. Navigators help customers evaluate and compare their current strategies and advise them on next steps to optimize corrosion management strategies.
