Amazon Purchases Could Soon Be Dropping from the Sky
Marie Donlon | March 16, 2018The sky will soon be raining online purchases if Amazon has its way. The online retail giant is considering a delivery scheme where drones would drop off delivery packages from as high as 25 feet above instead of flying down and dropping packages at ground level.
Because drones use a considerable amount of power when delivering packages due to repeated landings and takeoffs, Amazon has received a patent for cushioned packaging with inflatable airbags that will allow the company to drop products from heights that wouldn’t tax drones, thereby conserving power.
According to the patent details, the drone could inflate the "airlift package protection airbag" with a gas canister or possibly the downdraft from the aircraft's propellers, while in flight or "near a drop location, such as a backyard or patio of a residential dwelling."
The patent also details solutions for potential mid-air failures and scenarios where falling products could collide with people or animals. In the event that a drone loses power, the package airbag could be designed to self-inflate before making contact with buildings, the ground or other objects. Likewise, the drone could also be equipped with cameras and sensors that would ensure that “drop zones” were clear of people, animals and fragile objects.
It is unclear when and if this feature will be available from Amazon.
At least the packages will experience lower shock forces . . .

I own property, this means I can post a no trespassing signs. Also I have mineral rights. Do I also have " sky " rights too ?
Great. I can't wait to have to wade through 2 feet of snow to pick up my iPhone cables that were dropped in the middle of my backyard.
