Avangrid Renewables signed its second wind contract with shoe manufacturer Nike, this time for 86 megawatts (MW) of wind power from a proposed Texas wind farm.
The power purchase agreement (PPA) will cover the remaining portion of Avangrid Renewables' 286 MW Karankawa Wind Farm in Bee and San Patricio counties. Austin Energy earlier announced its own PPA for 200 of generating capacity from the facility. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2018.
Nike says that this agreement means it will source 100 percent renewable energy capacity across its owned or operated facilities in North America.
Avangrid Renewable’s previous PPA with Nike involved three Columbia Gorge sited wind farms for the shoe company's headquarters and nearly all of its Oregon-based facilities.
Avangrid Renewables also owns and operates the 605 MW South Texas Coast Complex along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and the 120 MW Barton Chapel Wind Farm in Midwestern Texas.
