EDP Renewables signed three power purchase agreements (PPA) with retailer Walmart that will enable construction of three wind farms in Illinois and Indiana.

The Madrid, Spain-based company says that the three projects will add more than 600 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity and include:

  • The Bright Stalk Wind Farm, a 205 MW project in McLean County, Illinois, with start of operations expected in 2019. Walmart's PPA is for 123 MW of capacity.
  • The Headwaters II Wind Farm, a 200 MW project in Randolph County, Indiana, with start of operations expected in 2020. Walmart's PPA is for 60 MW of capacity.
  • The Harvest Ridge Wind Farm, formerly Broadlands Wind Farm, a 200 MW project in Douglas County, Illinois, with start of operations expected in 2019. Walmart's PPA is for 50 MW of capacity.

EDP Renewables operates 797 MW of wind energy projects in Illinois and 801 MW in Indiana. Across North America, the company operates more than 5,600 MW of renewable energy projects.
