A Smart Way to Charge Your Tesla
Engineering360 News Desk | February 02, 2017A smart charging app from Jedlix, a unit of Dutch renewable energy company Eneco, is available to home-charging Tesla drivers.
The company says that a trial conducted among 40 Tesla drivers demonstrated that the app increases the share of renewable energy in the battery. Savings on charging costs can be as high as 15%.
The app, named #ichargesmart, manages the charging of an electric car based on the balance between production and consumption of renewable energy. By selecting optimal charging moments, the program increases the share of renewables in the energy mix and determines the lowest rate during the charging period.
The more than 6,000 Teslas in the Netherlands account for nearly half of the total number of fully electric cars in the country. With a combined peak capacity of around 60 MW, these cars have the potential to accelerate the integration of solar and wind power, the company says.
The app is available for both iOS and Android mobile phones.
