Distracted driving due to phone use is the new impaired driving. As the summer road trip season begins, Canada-based Specific Range Solutions launches AutoAdvisory 2.0, an iPhone app that helps drivers focus their attention on the road.

The National Safety Council estimates that one-quarter of all vehicle collisions are due to phone use, the company says. AutoAdvisory 2.0 may reduce the risk of distracted driving by operating as a sort of co-pilot.

The app advises the driver not to use their iPhone when driving is detected, monitors their device to ensure it's not unlocked during the trip, and provides feedback at the end of the trip via a debrief feature. The company says the app maintains privacy and does not affect iPhone functionality.

AutoAdvisory 2.0 also enables drivers to share their safe driving milestones via Facebook and Twitter. AutoAdvisory 2.0 is available on the App Store for $0.99 and provides the following functionality :

• "Your AutoAdvisory Stats";
• Total and last safe trip distances in either miles or kilometers;
• Driving detection via Bluetooth or in-vehicle charging;
• Sharing safe driving accomplishments via Twitter.
