GGB Bearing Technology introduced a bearing that it says will widen the selection for engineers when specifying for applications requiring high wear resistance, but that won’t crack under load.

The bearings feature a case-hardened outer surface over a ductile inner core. The bearings feature a case-hardened outer surface over a ductile inner core. The GGB-SHB case hardened steel bearings include an exterior surface hardened by carburizing to a depth of about 0.8 to 1.0 mm. The surface is hardened to between 58 and 62 HCR on the Rockwell hardness scale, compared to the bearing’s 20MnV6 steel interior core, which remains comparatively ductile.

GGB says the outer surface is a special alloy containing manganese and vanadium, which it says give improved strength and higher wear resistance.

The GGB-SHB plain bearings are available in cylindrical, flanged and other configurations.
