New robot makes pharmacy deliveries
Marie Donlon | July 31, 2024A Nevada-based provider of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven service robots has developed an elevator delivery bot for autonomously delivering pharmaceuticals via elevator 24/7.
The so-called Medbot from Richtech Robotics is an elevator delivery robot designed to improve healthcare facility efficiency with secure deliveries, thereby reducing operating costs and improving the overall patient experience by offloading routine tasks for healthcare workers.
Medbot, according to its developers, enables hospitals and clinics to reliably and securely automate medication deliveries with uninterrupted service, up to 24 hours a day. This reportedly enables pharmacy technicians to stay in the pharmacy to perform more important tasks, rather than delivery tasks.
In addition to being easily integrated into most elevators, the company explains that Medbot can hold up to 3.17 gallons and each of its compartment can be opened one at a time, if desired.
Additionally, the internet of things (IoT)-enabled Medbot features a large touchscreen display for easy delivery scheduling management and real-time visibility as well as obstacle detection and avoidance capabilities thanks to onboard ultrasonic sensors and cameras.
So far, the company suggests that Medbot’s installations — in pharmacy to in-patient units and emergency departments, chemotherapy preparations to infusion centers, pharmacy-to-pharmacy/intra-pharmacy transport, and “meds-to-beds” discharge medications from outpatient pharmacy to the patient’s nurse, for instance — have a proven 100% delivery success rate.
