Turner Imaging Systems' Smart-C earned a Silver Medal from the Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) in Radiological, Imaging and Electromechanical Devices for 2022. This is the medtech industry's most prestigious award program, honoring achievements in medical equipment design and engineering that increase the quality and accessibility of healthcare.
An independent panel of medtech specialists, including doctors, nurses, engineers and manufacturers evaluates the entries. MDEA jurors consider product design, material utilization, patient and end-user advantages, system benefits, increased accessibility and unmet medical need while evaluating entries. Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry editor Daphne Allan adds, “This year’s entrants were amazing; each playing a significant role in changing the direction of the industry and bringing viable new innovations that overcome today’s most pressing challenges in the healthcare field.”
Reducing strain on healthcare systems through innovation
"The Smart-C is a disruptive X-ray imaging system finding new uses in clinics, operating rooms, urgent care facilities, sport, military medicine, humanitarian missions and emergency departments," says Mike Orthner, PhD, director of business development "This technology has shown positive impact on healthcare

Healthcare systems are under considerable stress, and the unique Smart-C design challenges the conventional diagnostic and surgical imaging structure.
Fluoroscopic imaging can be performed virtually anywhere, even in the rain, because it is portable, collapsible, lightweight, battery-powered and water-resistant. Turner Imaging continues to differentiate itself from competitors by prioritizing patient and practitioner needs to develop products that enhance outputs by increasing functionality, improving productivity and lowering healthcare costs.
