Women in the military. Source: wikipedia.comThe U.S. military is opening up military occupation specialty 12B—combat engineer—to all female enlisted soldiers.
The Army Directive, issued on June 16, makes available 20,563 additional positions available for women, and opens the last of the 16 engineer military occupation specialties (MOS’s), which had been previously closed to women.
The Army says that the only positions not open to women are in certain special operations units.
Previously female officers were assigned as combat engineers “to provide a support network for junior female soldiers and to offer advice to the unit’s male leadership,” says Army Secretary John McHugh.
