The world’s smallest and lightest hydrogen fuel cell has been developed by researchers from the Clean Energy Research Centre (CERC) at Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore, in collaboration with industry partner Duralite Power. The device weighs 880 g and is 10 times smaller and lighter than commercially available alternatives.
The ultralight fuel cell generates up to 1 kW to power drones, personal mobility devices and other off-grid power systems. Featuring an energy density about three times that of conventional lithium batteries, the fuel cell can extend drone flight time to two to three hours.
The CERC has also been involved in the development of portable hydrogen generators, active battery management systems for electric vehicles and lithium-ion battery systems for underwater robotic vehicles.
