Wind turbine maker Vestas says it has received orders for a total of 630 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity for projects in Colorado and Australia.

In Colorado, the company will provide 442 MW of V116-2.0 MW and V110-2.0 MW turbines from Xcel Energy Inc.

The order is part of Xcel Energy’s proposed multi-state wind expansion to add 3,680 MW of new wind generation to its system, across 12 projects located in seven states. This expansion would lift the utility’s wind capacity to more than 10,000 MW by the end of 2021.

Vestas also received an order for the 228 MW Lal Lal Wind Farm in Victoria, Australia. The project is owned by a partnership that includes InfraRed Capital Partners, Macquarie Capital and Northleaf Capital. The project includes a 30-year service agreement.

For the project, Vestas will supply, commission and service 60 V136-3.6 MW turbines, delivered in 3.8 MW mode, and a hub height of 93 meters.

The project will also feature radar-activated aviation lights, InteliLight. The aviation lights switch on when needed, and avoid unnecessary continuous lighting.

Turbine delivery is expected to start in the 4th quarter of 2018 and commissioning is expected by third quarter of 2019.

The Colorado order, meanwhile, includes turbine supply and commissioning as well as a 10-year service agreement. Turbine delivery will begin in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Xcel Energy and Vestas previously partnered on the 600 MW Rush Creek wind project, which is under construction in Colorado.
