Volvo sold 570,000 cars in 2017, with about five percent of plastics in its cars currently derived from recycled materials.

Volvo unveiled a test model of its XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid SUV in Gothenburg, Sweden, that it said looks identical to the existing car except that some of its plastic parts were made from recycled materials. The company has specially-built a version of its XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid SUV that appears identical to the existing model, but has had several of its plastic components replaced with equivalents containing recycled materials.

The car’s carpet contains fibers made from PET plastic bottles and recycled cotton from clothing manufacturers. Old Volvo car seats were used in sound-absorbing material under the hood and renewable materials from fishing nets and ropes were included in the tunnel console.
