Despite being equipped with driverless technology, a metro train recently launched in India will still operate using a driver for at least the immediate future.

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corp., although the Magenta Line — which links the southern part of New Delhi with the city of Noida — is highly automated, human operators will still be required to drive the train for the next year or two. However, the expectation is that the train will be driverless in the future.

The decision, according to Delhi Metro Rail Corp. has nothing to do with a train crash last week involving one of the new trains crashing through a depot wall.

Officials insist the crash was the result of human error and not an issue with the automation technology.
