Ocado Intelligent Automation has developed Porter AMR, a pallet-moving autonomous mobile robot (AMR) that navigates warehouses and automates warehouse workflows such as crossdocking, bulk-item picking, putaway and pallet movement.

“Porter's patented Fork Insertion Depth System (FIDS) utilizes advanced vision and sensor technology to identify pallet types and orientations, enabling precise pick and drop of back-to-back queued pallets,” said Jeff Larson, director of AMR Solutions. “Built on the same software stack that powers Chuck, Porter is driving case picking rates up to 2x higher — even when compared to operations using powered vehicles.”

According to its developers, Porter picks, moves and precisely places pallets directly from the floor, even when they are aligned back-to-back. Further, Porter recognizes its surroundings to safely handle and transport heavy loads autonomously. Additionally, Porter can be configured to handle cages, effectively increasing flexibility and expanding fulfillment capabilities.
