Prefab Structures Built within Days
Vincent Zandri | March 17, 2016It may be possible to build an entire home, studio or office in as little as three days thanks to Portuguese architect Samuel Gonclaves, who engineered a building system that may reduce construction waste and minimize energy output. The Gomos System consists of a series of prefabricated concrete modules that are transported to a job-site for assembly.
Finishes include flooring, windows, and doors, plus utilities.Altogether, the system consists of four stages, the first stage being factory prefabrication of the concrete shell. Prefabrication of the structure’s interior follows as a second stage. While some interiors are slated for owners who choose their own finishes, some structures can be outfitted for office, studio or commercial use. The final finishes include flooring, windows and doors, as well as utilities such as water systems and electrical components. The exterior finish is completed off site. The final two stages consist of structure transportation and on-site assembly.
Structures may vary in size depending largely on the client’s budget and available building space. An optional solar panel array is available, and a base model costs around $55,000.
