LG to debut ‘advanced’ automated warehouse robots
GlobalSpec News Desk | March 20, 2024LG Business Solutions USA, a manufacturer of consumer electronics, home appliances and mobile communications, home appliances and mobile communication has announced the development of its LG CLOi CarryBot family of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for warehouse efficiency.
According to its developers, the LG CLOi CarryBot is designed to intelligently navigate floor plans and deliver payloads with loading and unloading performed by workers, thereby eliminating the need for workers to physically transport packages and, consequently, improving productivity.
To enable this, the new LG CLOi CarryBot features LG’s AMR platform for autonomous navigation, Wi-Fi capabilities, ergonomic hardware design, intuitive fleet management and a material control system that perfects order distribution and scheduling. Further, the LG CLOi CarryBot is expected to streamline product movement and reduce physical strain on workers.
Capable of reaching a maximum speed of 2.7 mph, the LG CLOi CarryBot can achieve a roughly 18.5 hour run time and deliver small-to-medium packages across almost any distance.
These capabilities, the researchers explained, when combined with software and machine learning, can lead to the seamless integration with assorted facets of warehouse management systems, such as material control, fleet management and robot management systems.
Specifically, interfacing with material control systems, allows for smart order grouping, picking item categorization, order information distribution and total picking cooperation support including notations of shortages or skipped items.
Meanwhile, fleet management system integration offers path-planning for multi-AMR users, intelligent AMR fleet navigation and prioritization, traffic balancing and detouring, obstacle avoidance and automated return for dock charging.

Additionally, the robot management system offers managers instant access to location info, AMR status, alerts for abnormal interactions and statistical data to support decision making.
Available in two iterations, the Mounting Type CLOi CarryBot features two shelves for smaller package delivery needs or use in tight spaces, while the Rolltainer Type CLOi CarryBot features two shelves for larger packages.
The researchers added that the LG CLOi CarryBot can be programmed for most floor plans with unlimited pickup and delivery points, thereby allowing for precise navigation, multi-point deliveries and AI-enhanced decision-making.
The LG CLOi CarryBot will be launched at the MODEX 2024 trade show, held March 11-14 in Atlanta, Georgia, at LG’s booth (A11918) in the Georgia World Congress Center.
