Hyundai Motor has received approval from Nevada authorities to begin tests of a fully autonomous fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).

The company will evaluate a range of partially and fully autonomous driving technologies in two Tucson (ix35) FCEVs, including:

  • Interval autonomous driving technology—fully autonomous driving within fully controlled, designated roads
  • Traffic jam assist—tracking the vehicle ahead under moderate/high traffic conditions (0-60kph)
  • Emergency stop system—autonomously directing the car to the side of the road in case of emergency
  • Narrow path assist—providing guidance or fully autonomous drive through narrow roads

Since November 2014, Hyundai has carried out more than 10,000 miles of testing in Korea.
