Tech start-up HG Robotics has developed a squid-shaped twin prop vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone that takes off and lands on its so-called tail without the need for a runway.

The drone, dubbed Vetal, features two motors housed in a military-grade carbon fiber. According to its developers, the Vetal can fly for 60 minutes at a time, beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS), carrying an almost 2 lb payload to altitudes of about 6,560 ft.

Called a tail-sitter drone, the 4G/5G capable Vetal tips itself forward when in flight to propel itself and is capable of landing on moving objects such as ships, trains and trucks. The tail-sitter drone was designed for surveillance and agricultural surveying applications, according to the startup.
