Watch: Emergency Bikes improve mobility in medicine
S. Himmelstein | December 01, 2020Traffic congestion in Paris is estimated to cause drivers to waste 140 hours annually navigating jammed roads. The problem is compounded for doctors and medics for whom each minute tied up in urban traffic translates into longer emergency response times with adverse implications for patients. The Emergency Bike was developed to help speed medical personnel through city traffic and quickly respond to emergency calls.
Built on existing Urban Arrow cargo e-bikes, Emergency Bikes are customized to fit the needs of urgent care doctors in an urban setting. The medical mobility solution features a 150-liter insulated storage box for medical supplies, a 140 dB horn, a high-intensity flashing blue LED and GPS for location tracking. A USB port powers portable devices on a bicycle propelled by a bottom bracket motor with two 500 watt-hour (Wh) lithium batteries.
The electric bike for medical service developed by public relations and technology innovation firm Wunderman Thompson Paris in partnership with French electric mobility company Ecox Enterprises has already been put into service by UMP (Paris Emergency Services).
