IBS: The new Iris diaphragm control valve by EGGER
Diana Aoun | November 12, 2020EGGER recently launched the latest offering in its IRIS range of diaphragm control valves, stating that the new IBS is a “completely redesigned and technically revised” addition to the well-known series. One of the most noticeable features of this new valve is not just its modern, compact design, but visual position indicator, now clearly visible from three sides even from a long distance, making tasks easier and more efficient for operators. Equally important is the electronic feedback of the variable speed drive position to the local SCADA system.
The new IBS boasts a robust, central flow design with an automatic self-cleaning feature (with flushing connections), making the valve an attractive option for regulating raw wastewater, process water, primary and aerated sludge, as well as digested sludge. It can also be widely used as an effective control valve across a range of applications including liquids, gases, granules and powders.

With the electrical actuator option, customers are promised precise regulation, allowing for up to 1200 operations per hour. Additional options available in the series include a pneumatic actuator, hand wheel or lever.
A unique and visible design feature of the IBS is the adoption of six central opening segments. The segments can retract completely into the valve casing, allowing equal-percentage valve characteristics. The almost linear operating curve with large control range promotes repeatable control that is stable across the entire valve stroke, ensuring energy-efficient regulation with low pressure loss across the valve.
The design of the new Iris IBS promotes low maintenance and simplified operation with the incorporation of a self-locking spindle nut, a welcome feature for valves in difficult-to-access locations. Another added benefit of the new design is the ability for operators to replace the drive support (or any associated parts) without having to remove the valve from the pipeline.
The new IBS is available in sizes DN 25 to 400 (1 in to 16 in), a pressure rating of up to 10 bar/150 psi and can handle media temperatures of up to 220° C (428° F).
Now this is a coincidence,... I was justing thinking/working on a personal project that required a iris this past week...
