In an effort to expand its business in a sustainable and eco-friendly way, Swedish home décor giant IKEA announced that it will be using electric vehicles with zero emissions to deliver furniture and other goods to certain cities around the globe, thereby cutting down on the release of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

So far, the delivery scheme is only launching in five cities including Amsterdam, New York City, Los Angeles, Paris and Shanghai. Delivery in these cities will be conducted via electric vehicle or some other means that doesn’t result in gas emissions, with the overall goal of achieving zero-emissions delivery by 2020.

This initiative isn’t the only eco-friendly goal that IKEA hopes to achieve in the near future. The retailer also hopes to attain 100% electric vehicle delivery by 2025. IKEA also aims to include accessible charging stations at each of the IKEA group touchpoints, including IKEA stores, distribution centers and offices by 2020.
