Report: These 10 U.S. Cities are Committed to 100% Renewable Energy

Ten U.S. cities which plan to be 100% powered with renewable energy in the near term are profiled in a new Sierra Club report. More than 75 U.S. cities have now committed to transition to 100% clean energy, including big cities such as Atlanta, Georgia and small towns such as Abita Springs, Louisiana. At least six U.S. cities have already achieved this goal and are powered today with entirely renewable sources.
The cities saluted in this third annual case studies report are:
Columbia, South Carolina, which is committed to transitioning to 100% renewable electricity by 2036.
Concord, New Hampshire plans to achieve 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and for all energy sectors, including heat and transportation by 2050.
Denton, Texas, is pursuing 100% renewable electricity community-wide as early as 2020.
Denver, Colorado, targets a transition to 100% renewable electricity community-wide by 2030.
Fayetteville, Arkansas, is committed to powering all government operations with 100% clean energy by 2030 and the entire community by 2050.
Minneapolis, Minnesota, has committed to 100% renewable electricity for municipal facilities and operations by 2022, and 100% renewable electricity community-wide by 2030.
Norman, Oklahoma, seeks to achieve 100% clean energy in the form of wind, solar, energy efficiency measures and other renewable sources within the electricity sector by 2035 and all energy-use sectors including heating and transportation by 2050.
Orlando, Florida, is committed to 100% clean, renewable energy by 2030 and community-wide 100% clean electricity by 2050.
Santa Barbara, California, recently approved a measure that establishes a community-wide goal of transitioning to 100% renewable electricity by 2030. The city will also transition all municipal buildings and operations to 50% electricity by 2020
St. Louis, Missouri, targets a transition to 100% clean energy in the form of wind and solar and energy efficiency measures within the electricity sector by 2035.
Define clean energy....How can our solar and wind power store it's energy? ...and if it can't, there needs to be base load support from other sources....Germany's spent a lot of money on solar and wind, but their CO2 emissions have continued to increase, their particulate emissions have increased....What is the goal here? Why do people keep saying this is working when it's not?

"Had California and Germany invested $680 billion into new nuclear power plants instead of renewables like solar and wind farms, the two would already be generating 100% or more of their electricity from clean (low-emissions) energy sources, according to a new analysis by Environmental Progress.
The analysis comes the day before California plays host to a “Global Climate Action Summit,” which makes no mention of nuclear, despite it being the largest source of clean energy in the U.S. and Europe.

I agree with SE. I do wish they would commit to "zero carbon" electricity, instead of "renewable" electricity. Natural gas is cleaner than coal, of course, but it is still a combustion process generating carbon dioxide.
Ok I decided to look at one of these cities at random...Denton, Texas
So they're committed to 100% clean energy by 2020...less than 2 years...

You can sign up for using 100% solar and wind power for an additional $5 a month....they qualify this by saying
"DME will use the state's wholesale electric market to acquire renewable energy credits on behalf of GreenSense customers. "
Do I really get 100% green renewable energy?
"Customers choosing GreenSense will not have electricity from a specific renewable generating facility delivered directly to their house. Instead, they are supporting generators of cleaner energy that provide electricity to the state’s power grid. DME will ensure that electricity equal to our GreenSense customer's annual electricity usage is delivered to the grid, replacing the non-green power that would have otherwise been purchased. "
