Aecon JV Wins Pipeline Replacement Contract

Aecon Group Inc. says that its joint venture with Robert B. Somerville Co. Ltd. has been awarded a C$282 million ($213 million) contract by Enbridge Pipelines Inc. for Spreads 8 and 9 of its Line 3 Replacement Phase 2 project in Manitoba, Canada.
The scope of work includes constructing 57 miles of pipeline for Spread 8, and 60 miles of pipeline for Spread 9 extending to the Canada-U.S. border.
Construction is expected to start in August 2018, with anticipated substantial completion by the end of 2018. Under Phase 1 of the Line 3 Replacement project, SA Energy Group recently completed Spreads 3 and 4 (261 kilometers), in Saskatchewan.
The work is part of the largest project in Enbridge history, which includes the replacement of 1,031 miles of pipeline and associated facilities from Hardisty, Alb., to Superior, Wis. The project is intended to increase capacity for Canada's crude oil production, and meet refinery demand in Canada and the U.S.
