Alliant Energy and Invenergy agreed to complete development of the 210 megawatt (MW) Richland Wind Farm in Sac County, Iowa. Alliant will build and own the wind farm.

The wind farm is expected to be completed by early 2020. It is part of the utility's plan to add 1,000 MW of wind generation for Iowa customers by the end of 2020. The expansion is expected to come from five new wind farms in Iowa. Richland Wind Farm is the fifth and final part of the project.

In April, Alliant Energy received approval from state regulators to invest $1.8 billion in renewable energy by the end of 2020. Through this expansion, the company expects wind to comprise around one-third of its Iowa total capacity.

Iowa regulators placed a cost cap of $1,780/kilowatt, including allowance for funds used during construction (AFUDC) and transmission costs for the new wind.
