To underscore how significant artificial intelligence is to the future of the company, Google has rebranded its Google Research division and will be referring to it from here on out as Google AI.

According to a company blog post, AI plays a critical role in nearly everything the company does and will do. As such, the rebrand is an effort to “better reflect [its] commitment” to incorporating AI into all of its services.

Noting the threats posed by artificial intelligence in terms of jobs and misinformation, Google cofounder Sergey Brin called AI “the most significant development in computing in my lifetime.”
