Source: Baker Hughes IncorporatedCoiled-tubing drilling (CTD) performance can be improved with an integrated steering principle that combines the rib steering concept with closed loop control and motor technology. The unique design addresses existing limitations in lateral reach wells, it improves geo-steering capabilities and it enhances drilling performance in CTD applications.
The CoilTrak™ 3-in. Rib Steered Motor is the latest service offering from Baker Hughes CoilTrak BHA system. It allows for additional reservoir exposure and production with improved project efficiencies.
Extend Lateral Reach in CTD
The limited-reach capability of standard bottom hole assemblies (BHA) is extended by use of Rib Steered Motor technology. Straight and optimized wellbore trajectories are possible with low dog sled severity and minimal tortuosity that results in reduced friction between the CT string and borehole wall. The result is a smoother weight transfer to the BHA and a deeper CT lookup depth in the wellbore profile.
Improved Geo-Steering
Geo-steering process improvements are achieved with advanced controls and BHA sensors. The unit provides adjustable, optimized, closed-loop controlled steering capability that is selectable between 0–10°/100 ft. Reliable near bit inclination, resistivity and gamma measurements close to the bit ensure precise positioning.
Drilling Performance Enhancement
The CoilTrak coiled-tubing BHA systems provide stable weight transfer and constant weight on bit. They deliver greater drilling rates of penetration and induce less vibration which further enhances the drilling performance.
The CoilTrak coiled-tubing BHA system addresses advanced coiled-tubing (CT) drilling applications in 2 3/4 in. to 4 3/4 in. holes. They accommodate all types of drilling fluids with various selectable high-performance motor sections available on request to best suit various application requirements.
