Source: Pyeongchang Olympics anti-Terrorism and Safety HeadquartersAs the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, prepare to get underway, security measures are in place to keep those in attendance safe.
Among those measures keeping the expected crowds of people safe are planes equipped with facial recognition technology, drones capable of capturing other drones and vehicles outfitted with x-ray technology to scan the crowds for the possibility of concealed weapons.
The tactical planes, which are enabled with high-resolution CCTV with facial recognition, will fly over the crowds recording the activity below and alerting security personnel if the planes notice unusual or suspicious activity.
Concerned about the possibility of weaponized hobby drones or terrorist drones, officials will be deploying drones capable of capturing other drones. Operated by South Korean police and armed forces, these drones are outfitted with nets that can be activated to capture other potentially dangerous drones.
On the ground, an anti-terrorism unit will have access to three x-ray search vehicles that will patrol the streets using x-ray vision to search for concealed weapons or people.
An estimated 50,000 security personnel will be on hand to help keep the events safe beginning Friday when the Winter Olympics are set to begin.
