A new texting feature, called “Send me SFMOMA,” will send images of its nearly 35,000 piece collection to cell phone users who text 572-51 along with a keyword or emoji. The image selected by “Send me SFMOMA” will be inspired by the sender’s keyword.
According to SFMOMA's creative technologist, Jay Mollica, only 5 percent of the 35,000 piece SFMOMA collection is ever available for viewing. Viewing an entire collection would mean walking roughly 121.3 miles.
“We didn't expect any single Send Me SFMOMA user to ever get through all 34,678 art works in the collection," Mollica writes. "But what we have seen, and hope to continue to see, are thousands of people connecting with artwork in fun, new, and very personal ways."
