The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) published ANSI C12.7-2014 American National Standard for Requirements for Watthour Meter Sockets. This standard is useful to electric utilities, as well as the electricity meter and meter sockets industries; and covers the dimensions and functions of meter test switches for transformer-rated watthour meters when used in conjunction with instrument transformers.

ANSI C12.7 was developed by the NEMA's Meter Mounting/Test Equipment Division (8EI-3) and ANSI Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) 12. This standard covers the general requirements and pertinent dimensions applicable to watthour meter sockets rated up to and including 600 V, and up to and including 320 A continuous duty per socket opening.

Revisions to ANSI C12.7 include certain performance requirements covered by the latest revision of Underwriters Laboratories' safety standard UL 414 Standard on Meter Sockets.
