Like many other technology firms, Toshiba is creating a special division to focus on the Internet of Things (IoT). The company announced plans to combine its Cloud & Solution division and ICT departments beginning April 1.

Toshiba says that by bringing together ICT specialists and engineers from different departments it will be able to innovate in the areas of IoT, big data and cloud computing .

Toshiba says it is trying to develop a common IoT platform, which will provide an infrastructure for connecting systems and devices over the Internet, and aims to create new systems and services for the IoT. It will combine expertise from several of Toshiba’s business divisions, including community solutions, healthcare systems and services, energy and infrastructure, electronic devices and components, and lifestyle products and services.
