Pressurized Liquid Alters Blowmolding Process
Engineering360 News Desk | August 11, 2016Krones AG, the Germany-based manufacturer of packaging equipment, licensed a new plastic bottle forming and filling technology from LiquiForm Group.
The technology, LiquiForm, uses pressurized liquid instead of compressed air to form rigid plastic bottles and fill them in a single step. Bottles are formed when they are filled with the beverage or other liquid product.
The process, introduced in 2014 by a joint venture between Amcor and Sidel, reportedly continues to expand its base of commercial partners worldwide who are licensing the technology. Amcor says the technology can be more efficient than traditional blow molding and filling, as it eliminates manufacturing equipment and steps and can reduce both waste and energy consumption.
Validated for use with several container materials, the process uses the same machine for cold, ambient or hot-fill containers.
