Digital Simulator Digs Up a Realistic Experience
Vincent Zandri | July 07, 2016Developed for CAT by Simformotion LLC, a heavy equipment simulator training company, a new wheel loader simulator offers video game-like technology that includes a three-monitor configuration. The setup gives an operator-in-training an authentic quarry digging experience by maximizing visibility in multiple directions. The simulator also combines machine controls with digging situations that can be found on job-sites and quarries. It also offers what the company says is realistic machine movement and vibration.
The simulator offers three screens to recreate a wide-angle video game-like simulator technology view. Some of the simulation exercises include control familiarization, such as machine walkaround, driving and loading, bucket dumping, truck loading and crusher dumping. The simulator also allows for extended practice sessions and skill refinement. The machine records data specific to each student’s progress for evaluation.
CAT says its simulators come with a multi-language, iPad companion. Other simulator systems made available for CAT operators-in-training include large tracked tractors, mining trucks, off-highway trucks and wheel tractor-scrapers.
