6-Pack Beverage Rings That Marine Life Can Eat
Riia O'Donnell | May 25, 2016A Florida-based brewery has created edible 6-pack rings that are made with waste barley and wheat left over from the brewing process. The company claims that not only are the rings safe to eat by marine life, they also are organic.

Saltwater Brewery tested the rings in April and found them to be as strong as their plastic counterparts. The brewery will replace traditional plastic rings for all its production, approximately half a million cans per month. The rings are at a higher price point, 10 to 15 cents per piece. The company says it hopes to bring the cost down with higher demand for the product, hopefully from other breweries. They also believe production costs could lower if the ring was 3D printed, instead of stamped.
