Stand-Up Food Pouch for the Oven
By Engineering360 News Desk | April 07, 2016Stand-up pouches have become the darlings of the food and beverage industry, a type of flexible packaging that may replace a range of traditional containers. Now, another new pouch introduction may continue the revolutionary shift to how some food items are packed.
A newly developed stand-up pouch can go direct from freezer storage to the microwave or conventional oven for in-the-bag cooking. This latest package is a stand-up pouch printed in heat resistant ink that’s engineered to permit freezer storage as well as cooking directly in the bag, via microwave or conventional ovens up to 200C.
The Telford, UK-based converter that developed the pack over the past year, TCL Packaging, says it uses a new conversion technique from B&G to create strong seals. It also reports making the doypack from PET to retain rigidity and stability during cooking. The pouch remains sturdy enough for safe handling and pouring out hot contents after cooking, according to the company. It has been certified by Smithers Pira for Gas Mark 7 food safety up to 220C or 450F, the company says.
