New electrode fixing tapes for use in the assembly of electric vehicle (EV) batteries have been introduced by Avery Dennison, adding to its portfolio of functional bonding and protection tapes engineered to make EV batteries safer, more efficient and easier to assemble.

Electrode fixing tapes are a specialized adhesive tape used to bind multilayer electrode constructions consisting of current collector foils, anode and cathode material and separator films in EV battery cells. The electrode fixing tapes are available with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP) plasticSource: Avery DennisonSource: Avery Dennison facestocks. The PP facestock is chemically inert to prevent self-discharge due to dimethyl terephthalate redox shuttle. These tapes deliver excellent prolonged resistance to electrolyte at elevated temperatures and are intended for electrode fixing in batteries by wrapping around the separator film and back onto itself.

The electrode fixing tapes feature:

  • Electrolyte-compatible acrylic adhesives
  • Highly visible green color
  • Self-wound, liner-less construction with various widths available on plastic cores

The tapes are manufactured in the U.S. to ensure compliance with the Inflation Reduction Act.
