GlobalSpec News Desk | February 20, 2024Kuka, a manufacturer of industrial robots and factory automation systems has developed a new industrial robot designed for handling and spot welding tasks.
According to the manufacturer, the new KR Fortec features an extended arm capable of handling payloads of roughly 240 kg across a reach of 3,700 mm. With a smaller footprint, the heavy-duty KR Fortec can reportedly fit between the company’s KR Quantec and KR Fortec ultra.

The company explained: “We developed the KR Fortec to achieve a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and to launch a resource-saving product on the market. The KR Fortec is up to 700 kg lighter than its predecessor.”
Further, the KR Fortec is reliable, with long operating periods and low maintenance requirements.
The robot’s two in-line wrists — which were adopted from the KR Quantec and KR Fortec ultra models — are waterproof and dustproof and the robot can operate between 0° C and 55° C.
The working envelope of the KR Fortec can be expanded using the KL 4000 linear unit, which is modularly adaptable between 1.5 m and 30 m. Another advantage is that the KR Quantec also fits on the KL 4000.
