The aptly named Sandy is an autonomous and environmentally friendly robot that traverses beaches in search of trash.

According to its developers, the robot cleans the coast, thereby protecting local ecosystems while avoiding obstacles. Further, the autonomous robot can remove garbage deeply ingrained in the sand.

Carbonium explains that Sandy uses artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to sift through sand, separating garbage from shells and pebbles, but leaving everything natural in its place.

Sandy recently made its debut at the Maker Faire Rome 2023.
