Switzerland-based startup Ascento has developed an autonomous outdoor security robot, dubbed the Ascento Guard.

According to its developers, the Ascento Guard is designed to patrol large, outdoor private properties, including those belonging to manufacturing facilities, data centers, pharmaceutical production centers and warehouses, among others.

Programmed to autonomously patrol these sites according to patrol schedules, the Ascento Guard is a solution to the current global labor shortage affecting most industries.

As such, the Ascento Guard has been designed to perform long patrol shifts, including overnight shifts and it can reportedly patrol grounds during bad weather.

Each Ascento Guard surveys perimeters at speeds of approximately 2.8 mph. Further, the robot security guards monitor for fires or break-ins using on-board thermal and infrared cameras.

Meanwhile, on-board speakers and microphones enable end-to-end encrypted two-way communications, while its video cameras can be used to scan license plates in associated parking lots.
