To enhance the safety of swimming pools, the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK), Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) and Lynxight, an Israel-based pool safety assisted lifeguard technology company, have developed artificial intelligence (AI) that works in conjunction with a building’s security cameras to alert lifeguards that a swimmer is in distress.

According to the companies, Lynxight's technology combines AI software and swimmer behavior analysis with a building’s security cameras to perform real-time monitoring both above and below the water. Such data is then delivered directly to the lifeguard’s smartwatch.

Further, the technology is also revealing real-time insights into pool use, number of swimmers in the pool at a given moment and data about each lane or pool area.

The companies are preparing to install the technology in a number of swimming pools over the coming months.
