24M receives DoE grant to develop next-generation high energy density lithium metal anode cells
Diana Aoun | June 03, 202324M Technologies, Inc. a spinout of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) recently secured a $9 million funding award from the U.S. Department of Energy's ARPA-E (Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy). The company will utilize the funding to develop and scale high-energy density lithium metal anode cells for electric aviation. The aim is to overcome the performance and cost limitations of current lithium-ion technologies using 24M's unique SemiSolid platform.
By incorporating a lithium metal anode and SemiSolid cathode, 24M plans to create batteries that offer superior power, improved energy density and lower costs for electric aviation applications. The company will also establish a commercial pilot line for customer validation and pave the way for large-scale gigawatt production capacity of the new lithium metal battery technology.
