The latest iteration of an autonomous plastic waste-consuming robot is currently swallowing up plastic waste in London’s Canary Wharf on the River Thames.

The WasteShark, from the company Ran Marine, is a wide-mouth autonomous robot inspired by a whale shark’s mouth that can reportedly ingest up to 21,000 plastic waste bottles a day, according to its developer.

The all-electric device has little impact on its environment and is quiet enough so as not to disturb the surrounding wildlife, according to its developers. Further, the robot can also consume biomass such as algae in addition to plastic waste.
