First US green hydrogen refueling station to be sited here
S. Himmelstein | March 16, 2021The first hydrogen energy station of its kind in the U.S. is expected to be completed in late 2022. When operational, the facility built in New York’s Capital Region will be available to fill fuel cell-powered automobiles with carbon-free energy and provide long-duration electrical energy storage.
The project announced by National Grid and Standard Hydrogen Corporation (SHC) is supported by grants from and sustainability technologies developed at Cornell University. This first demonstration of a hydrogen-based energy storage facility designed, built and operated by SHC will deliver services to National Grid and its customers. In addition to onsite renewable hydrogen production and energy storage, the installation will offer DC fast charging capabilities for electric vehicles.
The SHC-designed electrolysis system will be powered by renewable solar and wind energy to support the production of hydrogen as a sustainable source of energy.
