Infinity Drain receives patent for linear drain installation solution
Amy Born | October 05, 2020Infinity Drain, a leading manufacturer of architectural and decorative drains announced it has been awarded a U.S. Patent for its compact clamping floor drain design.
The standard round clamping floor drain was designed prior to linear drains hitting the market. The round shape works well if the drain is in the center of the shower enclosure, but presents challenges when placement is along the side of the shower, an increasingly popular option with the introduction of linear drains.

Unlike center drains, linear drains can be placed in a variety of locations within the shower, such as at the threshold (with or without a door or curb), along the wall or under a shower bench. As a result, the floor installation is simplified as well. Water flows through the drain and into a channel below the shower floor, and then enters the drainage system. With a standard 6.5 in center drain, all four ends of the floor need to slope toward the drain. With a linear drain, the floor only has to slope in one direction. The result is a more aesthetically pleasing look. The clamping drain sits below the channel.
The Infinity Drain compact clamping drain has two flat sides designed to fit flush against the wall. A round clamping drain requires additional furring out of the finished wall, said Jonathan Brill, company president. This design alleviates the installation challenges associated with linear drains and traditional waterproofing techniques (a vinyl pan liner, a lead or copper pan or a hot mop shower pan). The compact clamping floor drain can be used in residential and commercial applications, anywhere linear drains are installed.
Infinity Drain has received two previous patents for aesthetic design. This is the company’s first patent for functional performance.
Infinity Drain specializes in high quality, design-centric decorative shower drains, and drains for pool surrounds, patios, balconies, driveways and storm drainage. Other notable products include the site sizable linear drain and waterproof stainless steel shower base.
