Fabric-coating technology capable of killing viruses — including SARS CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19 — has successfully passed a battery of wash cycle tests, maintaining its virus-killing properties after 25 wash cycles.

Following independent tests conducted on the fabric-coating technology dubbed Bi-ome, Devan, a textile manufacturer, discovered that its fabric-coating technology successfully eliminated viruses by 99% on unwashed, treated textiles and eliminated viruses by 98.5% on treated fabrics washed 25 times.

According to Devan, the Bi-ome coating reportedly punctures the cell membrane of microorganisms, thereby deactivating the microorganism and halting its growth and subsequent proliferation.

Already, the technology is being used in bedding, clothing, travel accessories and transportation applications.
